In short: A 20 ton overhead crane is usually designed as a double girder crane. The crab running on two main girders gives a stiff structure and a high hook position even at high capacity.
Why double girder at 20 tonnes?
At 20 t and above, girder sizes, deflection limits and wheel loads increase. A double girder overhead crane spreads the load over two girders and, with the crab running on top, raises the hook higher.
Key design topics
- Duty class: mechanism group according to shifts and lifting frequency (FEM / ISO class)
- Hook arrangement: main hook and optional auxiliary hook
- Drives: inverter speed control for precise positioning of heavy loads
- Building: runway and corbels suitable for the wheel loads
- Safety: overload protection, double limits, emergency stop, anti-collision
Testing before handover
Our cranes undergo static and dynamic load tests above the rated load at commissioning, as well as electrical safety tests; the results are documented.

FAQ
Can a 20 ton crane be single girder?
It is possible in special cases, but at 20 t a double girder design is generally preferred for stiffness, hook height and wheel loads.
