In short: Crane automation uses a PLC to manage crane motions and safety functions. With our own PLC-based Aylen Smart Control we provide load monitoring, anti-sway, overload protection and remote condition monitoring.
What does crane automation include?
- PLC-based control: motions, interlocks and safety functions managed by software
- Load monitoring: real-time load measurement and overload protection
- Anti-sway: less load swing when accelerating and stopping, faster positioning
- Zone and collision control: restricted zones, slow-down areas and anti-collision
- Remote condition monitoring: operating hours, load history and fault logs
- Radio remote integration
Aylen Smart Control
Aylen Smart Control is our own PLC-based control system for cranes. It is standard on our new cranes and can be retrofitted to existing cranes. Read more: Aylen Smart Control, Aylen Smart Control kit and crane condition monitoring.
Benefits
- Safer operation, prevention of overload and misuse
- Faster, more precise positioning and shorter cycle times
- Early fault detection, planned maintenance and less downtime
- Usage data for remaining service life and maintenance planning
Can automation be added to an existing crane?
Yes. The electrical equipment is inspected and, if necessary, the control panel is replaced and PLC, load cell and monitoring modules are added, usually as part of a crane modernization.

FAQ
Which cranes can be automated?
Single and double girder overhead cranes, monorail and gantry cranes, new or existing and regardless of brand.
How does anti-sway work?
The control adjusts acceleration and deceleration profiles to the pendulum motion of the load, so the load swings less when it stops and positioning is faster.
