In short: A single girder overhead crane uses one main girder with a hoist trolley running on its bottom flange. It is the most widely used crane type for light to medium loads and medium spans in workshops, warehouses and production lines where an economical solution is needed.
What is a single girder overhead crane?
A single girder overhead crane (single girder EOT crane) consists of one main girder travelling on runway beams along both sides of the building, and an electric hoist trolley running on the bottom flange of the girder. The bridge travels along the hall, the trolley across it and the hook moves vertically, so loads can be handled almost anywhere in the building.
Aylen designs and manufactures single girder cranes in its 2,850 m² covered plant in Eskişehir, Türkiye, to the dimensions of your building and your duty requirements, and installs and commissions them with its own team.
When is a single girder crane the right choice?
- Capacities typically up to 16 tonnes
- Medium spans, usually up to about 25–30 m
- Light steel buildings where additional loads on the structure should be kept low
- Workshops, warehouses, maintenance hangars, assembly and packing lines
- Projects where investment and energy costs must be kept down
For higher capacities, large spans or intensive multi-shift operation a double girder overhead crane is usually the better choice.
Advantages
- Low dead weight: lower wheel loads on the runway and building columns.
- Economical: less steel and a standard hoist trolley reduce the investment.
- Fast installation: fewer components mean shorter installation time.
- Easy maintenance: hoist and electrical equipment are easy to reach.
Options
- Electric wire rope hoist or electric chain hoist
- Low headroom trolley for buildings with limited height
- Inverter (VFD) drives for smooth starting and stopping
- Pendant control or radio remote control
- Overload protection, hoist and travel limit switches, warning light and siren
- Optional load cell, anti-sway and remote monitoring (crane automation)

What determines the price?
Capacity, span, lifting height, hoist type, duty class, control and automation options and whether a runway is required. See overhead crane price for details.

FAQ
How many tonnes can a single girder crane lift?
Single girder cranes are typically used up to 16 tonnes. The exact limit depends on span, lifting height and duty class and is determined by engineering calculation.
Single girder or double girder?
Choose double girder for high capacity, large span, maximum hook height or intensive use; single girder is the economical choice for light to medium loads.
Can a single girder crane be installed in a low building?
Yes. With a low headroom trolley the hook can travel very close to the girder, preserving lifting height in buildings with a low roof.
