FEM Crane Classification Tool
In short: Enter capacity, speed, hook travel, cycles, operating time and load spectrum; the tool calculates the mechanism group (M1–M8, FEM 1Em–5m), crane class (A1–A8), rope diameter, protection and coating class according to ISO 4301-1.

This tool gives guidance based on FEM 9.511 and ISO 4301-1 tables; the rope diameter is estimated with DIN 15020 coefficients. Final selection requires an engineering calculation.
FAQ
What is the FEM class?
FEM 9.511 is the European standard that groups crane mechanisms from 1Em to 5m by operating time and load spectrum. ISO 4301 groups M1–M8 are the international equivalents.
How is the mechanism group determined?
The average daily operating time is tm = 2·H·N·T / (60·V). Total hours over the design life give the class of utilization (T0–T9), which is combined with the load spectrum (L1–L4) to find the M group.
What is the difference between A class and M group?
A1–A8 classifies the whole crane by total number of cycles; M1–M8 classifies individual mechanisms such as hoist, trolley and bridge travel by operating time.
