What Is Crane Condition Monitoring?

What Is Crane Condition Monitoring?
2 min read Aylen technical team

When a load is in the air, the operator needs reliable real-time data, not just experience. Aylen’s crane condition monitoring system turns a crane into a smart, connected machine.

What is monitored

  • Load and overload: load cells measure the load with a resolution of 1/1000; the system warns near the limit and stops hoisting on overload.
  • Motor performance: motor currents and temperatures are tracked, with early warnings for current peaks and overheating.
  • Rope angle and cross-lift: hoisting stops when the rope leaves the safe angle.
  • Slack rope: lowering stops instantly when the rope goes slack, protecting rope and rope guide.
  • Brakes, safety gates and emergency stop: monitored continuously with visual and audible alarms.

Built-in web interface

Via an encrypted Wi-Fi connection authorised users can calibrate the load measurement, change inverter parameters, set speed limits and safety thresholds, read time-stamped fault logs and switch safety functions on or off. Holding the hoist button can trigger automatic hook centering before lifting continues safely.

Benefits

Multi-layer safety, optimized energy use, longer motor life, fewer unplanned stops, access from cab, mobile or office, integration with SCADA/ERP, and compatibility with overhead, gantry and other crane types.
