Why Crane Maintenance Matters

Why Crane Maintenance Matters
2 min read Aylen technical team

Safe lifting depends on the condition of the crane and its accessories. Equipment failure can cause serious injuries, so regular inspection and correct use are essential.

What maintenance should cover

  • Visual inspection: structure, ropes, hooks and other parts for cracks, rust and deformation.
  • Functional checks: pendant, controls and all moving parts.
  • Electrical inspection: cables, connections and power supply.
  • Load capacity verification: safe working load and accessories.
  • Documentation: inspections, defects and corrective actions.

How often?

A newly installed or long-idle crane must be inspected before use. Statutory inspections are carried out every 6–12 months, and immediately after damage or modification.

Routine inspections

Visual checks of chains and hooks, a no-load function test for noise and vibration, control checks and a light load test.

Annual service

Rails, motors and brakes are inspected; lubrication, part replacement and safety tests ensure compliance. Frequency of use, load profile and environment (temperature, humidity, dust) determine the right schedule.

Warning signs

Unusual noises, jerky or uneven lifting, unresponsive controls and slow performance require immediate attention — stop the crane and have it inspected.
