How Is an Insulation Test Performed?
2 min read Aylen technical team

An insulation test measures the insulation resistance of a crane’s electrical system to detect leakage current, shock and short-circuit risks before they cause harm. It should be carried out regularly in line with IEC 60204-1 and EN 61439.

Equipment

We use calibrated digital insulation testers, typically at 500 V, 1000 V and 2500 V DC.

Frequency

At least once a year; every 3–6 months in humid or dusty environments or for heavy-duty cranes running around the clock.

Safety first

The system must be de-energised and lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures applied before testing.

Digital reporting

Every report is e-signed, verifiable via QR code and available as PDF on request. Reports are confidential and not shared with third parties.
